Slides
After skipping a week almost because of the snow days, I am now in the ending stages of recovering from the dreaded FLU! Yes, this year it's apparently really really awful, and I can definitely say I haven't been that sick in a long time. BUT I am now past the worst of it, and back in the studio.
So, what I have been working on so far this week, is with glass! I was able to get my hands on a whole lot of sheets of glass for my "Slides" exhibition idea....so I am working on what I can smash/put between the sheets of glass that will be intriguing for a sculpture.
I experimented a little with vinegar and milk, to extract the Casein out of the milk, strain it, roll it out, and dry it out. I thought it was going to be a flexible plastic-like substance. However, my sheet dried and shattered really beautifully. I wanted to experiment on transforming the color, so I did it with beet juice and powdered charcoal also. I hope to maybe use these in some slides...we'll see.
I also tried smashing a boiled beet in between two panes of glass to photograph and it came out very meat-like. I'm kind of loving this, I want to see if I can get that beautiful grotesque image I'm yearning from.
I might have to try to reshoot because the light is not doing what I want it to do...how can I make it pass through the glass without getting a reflection. This may take some more investigating.
I am also relearning how to photograph, these are my first attempts. New camera=learning curve. But I feel so lucky to have a brand new camera :)
