Days Numbered Series, 2017- 2018
Photography, Sculpture, Installation, Film
Days Numbered is a series of photographs, sculpture, film, and installation about the loss of fertility. The gauze is used to resemble an ovary, one that contains all of the potentially viable follicles, or eggs a woman carries from birth. Through the transparent material you are allowed to see that there are a number of eggs still waiting to drop, however upon closer examination, you see they are empty, broken and lifeless. The broken shells slowly descend and cascade from the gauze or ‘nest’ by thread and symbolize the many eggs I have already lost throughout my life, although there are more to come, they also are not viable. The thread is representative of the ovary or gauze structure disintegrating and unraveling.
