In this series of oil paintings, I am deeply exploring the intricate beauty of different cancers under the microscope. Each painting's highly saturated and textured cancer cells, contrast with the desaturated figure that correlates to the area of the body affected. The process of these paintings mimic the destruction cancer has on a person; physically, emotionally and spiritually. I fully render the figure beautiful and flawless, and then destroy it with the over laying cancer. Consuming the figure with it's vibrance and texture, each painting emotional and painful; a beautiful tragedy in which the end product is a complex combination of the consumer and the consumed. Having lost three family members of mine to these cancers, this series is very intimate for me as an artist.
