Slides Photography Experimentation

Ok, so this week I tried out some new techniques with lighting and photographing some of my "slides." The success and breakthrough came from lighting from below the slide, so that the light passed through the glass and object and created a more scientific look/interesting looking photo.

I first tried photographing this material that I made out of vinegar and milk. Basically I extracted the casein out of the milk, rolled it out and let it dry. When it dries it crumbles really beautifully. I then added charcoal to one, and beet juice to another to alter the color (just as an experiment).

Here's some photographs that I took of this material today: (keep in mind, these are all experiments and not finished photos)

Then, I wanted to try to photograph my beet again, with the light passing through, and voila! Success!

This is exactly what I was looking for, can't wait to try it out on some different materials! I'm thinking the finished product will be the photos and not the actual slides...

I also wanted to note that the projection of the slide onto a surface was extremely interesting...I think I'm going to make this part of my work also, play with distance and try to focus the projection.
